Day 15: You’re invited

    40 days of discipleship logo

    Feast on the Scriptures

    The DNA of Discipleship: Divine Truth 2

    When your words came, I ate them;
    they were my joy and my heart’s delight,
    for I bear your name,
    Lord God Almighty.

    Jeremiah 15:16

    You don’t have to understand nutrition in order to eat.  And you certainly can starve if you understand nutrition but don’t eat. This is true with spiritual growth as well. We don’t always understand the Scriptures although they can still make a difference to help us grow. Or the opposite is that we can understand the Scriptures but be starving because we are not ‘eating’ the bread of life regularly.

    I find it helpful when I read a passage to focus on what is clear. I might see where I need to grow, or where I can grip onto an encouraging truth about God. I might see a good example to imitate or a bad one to avoid. I might find a promise to claim or a specific command to obey. My imagination might be stirred about what God could do by seeing how he has acted in the past. Let your Scripture reading be food that keeps you growing.

    For Reflection:

    • Can you think of an example of something you don’t understand but still is encouraging?
    • What can you do with what you do not understand?

    Make Life Count:

    • In your 7 minutes with God, imagine you are eating the Scriptures and not just reading them. What is the difference?
    • Tell us something where God gave you understanding in a new way. How did that come about?
