The 5 Verbs of Learning: Imagine

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

    John 1:1

Jesus is our model and we focus on imitating Him. We start with how he is described in John 1:1. In many Spanish versions of the Bible, John 1:1 says “In the beginning was the Verb and the Verb was with God and the Verb was God”. This may sound surprising to those of us who are used to the traditional “In the beginning was the Word”. Let the word, “verb”, challenge your perspective. Because of the surplus of words in this age of information, we can interpret ‘Jesus as Word’ as more ‘information about God’. Is it enough to say “I know the information and I think it is true”? Yes we need to know information but there is more to interacting with the Verb. Wherever Jesus went, he transformed people. For those who were willing, it was more than information. People stopped being who they were and they became someone new. When we turn discipleship into a verb, it will transform our learning.
